■ Using as a network printer

This section contains the procedures to install

the printer driver when using the PS-9000

print server (sold separately) designed

exclusively for the P-touch series printers.

When using the PS-9000 print server, the

PT-9500PC can be used as a network printer.

This function can only be used in a Windows

environment.

→Installation of the printer driver is

complete, and the personal

computer will restart.

Note

● When the USB interface cable is

connected to the PT-9500PC, the serial

port cannot be used for communication.

Remove the USB interface cable from the

PT-9500PC.

● When using a personal computer that

baud rate to 9,600 bps. For details, refer

Uninstalling the software

If the PT-9500PC will no longer be used with

the personal computer, follow the following

steps to uninstall the software.

Double-click the My Computer icon, and

then click Add or remove programs.

Select Brother P-touch Editor Version 4.0

or P-touch Quick Editor from the list in the

Add/Remove Programs Properties sheet.

→The Add or Remove Programs

Click [Change/Remove].

Printer is no longer used

Delete the PT-9500PC printer driver. To delete

the PT-9500PC, select P-touch 9500PC from

the Printer window in Control Panel (Printers

and Faxes for Windows XP) and delete.

To completely delete the printer driver, follow

the following steps.

Turn off the PT-9500PC and remove the

interface cable from the personal

computer.

→The Driver Setup dialog box appears.

Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM

drive.

Click [OK].

→The Brother Setup dialog box

appears.

• It may take a short time until the

Brother Setup dialog box appears.

• If the Brother Setup dialog box does not

appear, double-click the My Computer

icon, and then double-click the P-touch

icon.

Select the desired language, and then

click [OK].

→The Confirmation dialog box

appears.

Click the button for Advanced setup.

Read the contents, and then click [OK].

• This dialog box may not appear

depending on the operating system

running on the personal computer.

Select “Delete Brother PT-9500PC,” and

then click [Next].

Click [Finish].

→Deleting the printer driver is

† If “Replace with new Brother PT-9500PC”

is selected, the previously installed printer

driver is deleted and replaced with a new

one. Select this option when upgrading the

printer driver, or when using a personal

computer running Windows 2000 Pro/XP

and changing to a PT-9500PC with a

different serial number.

† If “Add Brother PT-9500PC” is selected, a

new printer driver is added. Select this

option when connecting and using

multiple PT-9500PCs with the same

personal computer. For Windows 98/

98 SE/Me, only a new port is added

without adding it as a new printer.

Click [Yes].

→Deletion of the printer driver begins.

→The dialog box to indicate the

Installing the printer driver

Install the necessary printer driver to use the

PT-9500PC as a printer.

Note

● Do not connect the USB interface cable

to the Macintosh until the printer driver

has been installed and the Macintosh has

been restarted. If the USB interface cable

is already connected to the Macintosh,

remove the USB interface cable.

Double-click the Driver Installer.pkg

icon in the Mac OS X window.

→The Welcome to the PT-9500PC

Driver Installer dialog box appears.

Click [Continue].

→The Installer starts.

→The necessary operating

After printing

This section contains the procedures to remove the label backing from the printed label to remove.

Hold one end of the printed label with

one hand and hold the label stick with

When the backing of a printed label is not cut,

use the included label stick. For labels printed

using the Half Cut option, peel back the

backing from the cut line.

Insert half of the printed label into the

hole in the label stick with the printed

side facing up.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

Turn the label stick and quickly pull as

shown in the illustration below.

Remove the label stick installed inside

the PT-9500PC tape compartment cover.

→The end of the label will come off of

the backing slightly.

Completely remove the backing from the

label and affix the label.

Close the cover.

● There may be some cases where the use

of the label stick may cause some of the

printed text to wear off.

Bar code labels for product control and for sales transactions can be created simply with the

PT-9500PC. Because there are a variety of bar code standards, create the bar code labels after

confirming the creation standards and scanning standards for the bar code reader.

Precautions for printing bar code labels

Brother P-touch label printers are not designed specifically as bar code printers. The following

suggestions are recommended when creating/printing bar code labels:

● Please verify the bar code readability with your specific bar code scanner.

● Bar codes would be printed on black on white labels. The bar code reader may not be able to scan

labels created with other substrate colors.

● The bar code width should be set to the largest dimensions possible. If the bar code size is too

small, the bar code reader may not be able to scan the bar code.

● The entire bar code image, including left and right margins, must be within the dimensions of the

label image area.

Changing the P-touch settings

This section contains the procedures to change the PT-9500PC baud rate and an explanation for doing

so in a LAN environment.

Change the USB ID switch on the back of

the PT-9500PC.

Changing the USB ID mode

When multiple PT-9500PCs are used, the USB

ID mode can be changed to recognize and use

each PT-9500PC individually or to recognize

all of the PT-9500PCs as a single printer.

† Recognizing the PT-9500PCs individually

If the ID mode (see back of machine) is set

to “1,” install a separate printer driver for

each PT-9500PC.

Each PT-9500PC will then be recognized

as a different printer by the personal

computer.

† Recognizing the PT-9500PCs as a single

Connect the USB interface cable to the

PT-9500PC and the personal computer.

If the ID mode is set to “2,” install the

printer driver one time only and then

multiple PT-9500PCs can be used as the

same printer. Even if you connect a

different PT-9500PC to the personal

computer, the PT-9500PC can be used

without any additional setup.

Turn on the PT-9500PC, and then turn on

the personal computer.

Note

● The USB ID switch is usually set to “2.”

Turn off the PT-9500PC and the personal

computer.

Remove the USB interface cable from

both the PT-9500PC and the personal

computer.

Using multiple computers

Changing the baud rate

Although the recommended method of printing

from multiple computers to the PT-9500PC is

with the optional PS-9000 Ethernet Print Server,

an alternative method is described below.

The PT-9500PC can be used by multiple

personal computers as a shared printer.

Connect the PT-9500PC to one personal

computer and set it up for common use. The

PT-9500PC can then be used as a network

printer by personal computers in the same

network.

The serial interface baud rate is set to 115,200

bps at the factory.

When using a personal computer that does not

support a serial port baud rate of 115,200 bps,

change the PT-9500PC baud rate to 9,600 bps.

Note

● After changing the PT-9500PC's baud

rate to 9,600 bps, change the personal

computer baud rate as well. For details,

refer to “Setting the personal computer

and PT-9500PC baud rate” (→ P.41).

This function can only be used in a Windows

environment.

Turn off the PT-9500PC.

With the PT-9500PC power off, press the

power button on the PT-9500PC for 5

seconds or more.

The internal parts of the PT-9500PC will gradually become dirty with use. This section contains the

procedures for maintaining the PT-9500PC.

Press the feed/cut button.

Label is not printed clearly

If the printed label contains a blank horizontal

line or the characters are not clear, the print

head and head roller may be dirty.

■ Self-cleaning

Use the PT-9500PC self-cleaning function to

remove any dirt from the print head.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

Feed & Cut button

→Self-cleaning will start.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

After the rollers stop, press the cover

release button.

Install the removed tape cassette, and

then close the tape compartment cover.

Remove the tape cassette.

Close the tape compartment cover.

■ Cleaning the print head and head roller

If the print head is not cleaned by the self-

cleaning function, follow the following

procedures to clean the PT-9500PC.

Turn off the PT-9500PC.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

Remove the tape cassette.

Cotton swab

Head roller

Use a cotton swab to clean the print head

and head roller.

Install the removed tape cassette, and

then close the tape compartment cover.

● The PT-9500PC contains a cutter to cut

printed labels. Take special care not to

touch the cutter when cleaning the

PT-9500PC.

immediately after use. Do not clean the

■ Cleaning tape

Use the TZ-CL6 cleaning tape with a tape

width of 11/2” (36 mm) (sold separately) to

clean the PT-9500PC easily.

Cleaning the cutter

If the printed labels are not ejected from the

PT-9500PC correctly, clean the cutter for

cutting the labels.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

Turn off the PT-9500PC.

Remove the tape cassette and install the

cleaning tape.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

Close the tape compartment cover.

Remove the tape cassette.

Press the feed/cut button.

→Cleaning will start.

Use a cotton swab to clean the cutter.

Press the cover release button and open

the tape compartment cover.

When the rollers stop, press the cover

release button.

Remove the cleaning tape, reinstall the

tape cassette, and then close the tape

compartment cover.

The baud rate cannot be set

using the Change Baud Rate

Wizard or the Brother

PT-9500PC utilities.

Depending on the personal computer,

the COM port may be turned off as a

default at the factory. Refer to the

instruction manual for the personal

computer or contact the personal

computer manufacturer to turn on the

COM port.

Error 1 or Error 5: the serial port

of the personal computer cannot

be used.

Double-click the System icon in Control

Panel.

Click the Device Manager tab, and then

click the plus sign next to Ports (COM &

LPT)

• Make sure that COM1 and COM2 are

Raccordée à un ordinateur, la PT-9500PC (ci-après dénommée “cette imprimante”) est une imprimante

d'étiquettes qui permet d'imprimer aisément des étiquettes personnalisées.

Ce manuel décrit diverses précautions et procédures de base relatives à l'utilisation de cette P-touch.

Lisez-le attentivement avant d'utiliser la P-touch.

Conservez-le ensuite dans un endroit sûr pour pouvoir vous y référer ultérieurement.

PRÉCAUTIONS IMPORTANTES

■ P-touch 9500PC

● La PT-9500PC est une machine de précision. Évitez de la laisser tomber ou de la soumettre à des chocs

violents.

● Évitez de saisir ou de soulever la PT-9500PC par le couvercle du logement de la cassette. Le couvercle

risque de se détacher et la PT-9500PC de tomber et d'être endommagée.

● La PT-9500PC peut ne pas fonctionner correctement si elle est placée à proximité d'un téléviseur, d'une

radio, etc. N'installez pas la PT-9500PC à proximité d'appareils provoquant des interférences

électromagnétiques.

● N'exposez pas la PT-9500PC aux rayons directs du soleil.

● N'utilisez pas la PT-9500PC dans des endroits extrêmement poussiéreux, sujets à de hautes

températures, à une humidité élevée ou au gel. La PT-9500PC risque de ne plus fonctionner

correctement ou de ne plus fonctionner du tout.

● N'utilisez ni solvant, ni benzène, ni alcool, ni solvants organiques pour nettoyer la PT-9500PC. Vous

risqueriez d'endommager la finition et le boîtier de la PT-9500PC. Si un nettoyage s'impose, utilisez un

chiffon doux et sec.

● Ne posez pas de caoutchouc ni de vinyle sur la PT-9500PC pendant une période prolongée. Elle

pourrait être tachée.

● Ne placez pas d'objets lourds ou contenant de l'eau sur la PT-9500PC. Si de l'eau ou des objets

étrangers pénètrent dans la PT-9500PC, contactez le point de vente où vous avez acheté la PT-9500PC

ou votre service technique agréé local. N'utilisez plus la PT-9500PC, sinon vous pourriez l'endommager

ou vous blesser.

● Ne touchez pas la coupeuse. Vous risqueriez de vous blesser. Veillez-y tout particulièrement lorsque le

couvercle du logement de la cassette est ouvert au moment du changement de ruban.

● N'insérez aucun objet dans la sortie d'étiquette, la prise de l'adaptateur secteur, le port USB ou le port

série et n'obstruez pas ces éléments.

● Veillez à ne pas toucher les parties métalliques à proximité de la tête d'impression. La tête d'impression

est brûlante pendant et immédiatement après l'utilisation de l'imprimante. Ne la touchez pas à mains

nues.

● Utilisez uniquement les câbles d'interface (câble d'interface USB, câble d'interface série) fournis avec la

PT-9500PC.

● Utilisez uniquement les accessoires et fournitures Brother d’origine. N'utilisez pas de fournitures ni

d'accessoires non autorisés.

■ Adaptateur secteur

● Utilisez uniquement l'adaptateur secteur fourni avec la PT-9500PC.

● Si vous n'utilisez pas la PT-9500PC pendant une période prolongée, débranchez le cordon

d'alimentation de la prise secteur.

■ Ruban (cassette de ruban)

● N'utilisez que des rubans Brother TZ ou des étiquettes Brother/Avery AV avec cette imprimante.

N'utilisez pas de rubans ne portant pas la marque

● Ne tirez pas sur le ruban, sinon vous risquez d'endommager la cassette de ruban.

● Si l'étiquette est appliquée sur une surface humide, sale ou grasse, elle risque de se décoller facilement.

Avant d'appliquer l'étiquette, nettoyez la surface sur laquelle vous souhaitez la coller.

● Selon les conditions d'environnement et le matériau, l'état, la rugosité et la forme de la surface de

collage, l'étiquette risque de se décoller partiellement ou totalement.

● Pour vérifier la force d'adhérence de l'étiquette ou avant d'apposer l'étiquette sur un endroit

particulièrement sensible, collez, en guise d'essai, un petit morceau d'étiquette sur une section

dissimulée de la surface de collage prévue.

● Si l'étiquette est utilisée à l'extérieur, les rayons ultraviolets, le vent et la pluie risquent de décolorer

l'étiquette ou de favoriser le décollement de ses extrémités.

● Les inscriptions effectuées avec une encre à base d'huile ou d'eau risquent d'être visibles même si

l'étiquette est collée dessus. Pour les dissimuler, collez deux étiquettes superposées ou utilisez une

étiquette de couleur sombre.

● N'utilisez pas de cassettes de ruban vides.

● N'exposez pas les cassettes de ruban aux rayons directs du soleil, à des températures ou une humidité

élevée ou à la poussière. Rangez les cassettes dans un endroit frais et sombre. Utilisez les cassettes de

ruban peu de temps après les avoir déballées.

dommage, etc. résultant du non-respect des précautions susmentionnées.

Cette cassette contient le ruban utilisé pour

créer les étiquettes.

Permet de raccorder l'imprimante au cordon

d'alimentation.

■ Bâtonnet de lettrage

À utiliser lorsque vous ne parvenez pas à

retirer l'endos d'une étiquette imprimée. Le

bâtonnet se trouve à l'intérieur du couvercle

du logement de la cassette de la PT-9500PC.

■ Cordon d'alimentation (120 V c.a.)

Permet de raccorder l'imprimante à une prise

secteur.

■ Bac de récupération

Ce bac récupère les étiquettes imprimées

● Les procédures de raccordement varient en fonction du système d'exploitation du PC et selon la

Installation du logiciel

Installez le pilote d'imprimante permettant d'utiliser la

PT-9500PC comme imprimante avec le PC, ainsi que le

logiciel de création d'étiquettes. Pour plus d'informations,

reportez-vous à la section “Installation du logiciel” (

“Raccordement de la PT-9500PC” (→ P. 15).

Raccordement de la PT-9500PC

Raccordez la PT-9500PC à la source d'alimentation et à un PC.

Branchez le cordon d'alimentation à une

prise secteur (120 V c.a.).

Branchez le cordon d'alimentation fourni

à l'adaptateur secteur.

Remarque

Insérez le connecteur de l'adaptateur

secteur dans la prise de l'adaptateur

secteur à l'arrière de la PT-9500PC.

● Après avoir utilisé la PT-9500PC,

débranchez le cordon d'alimentation de

la prise secteur et l'adaptateur secteur de

la PT-9500PC et rangez-les pour

utilisation ultérieure.

● Lorsque vous débranchez l'adaptateur

secteur, ne tirez pas sur son cordon.

Sinon, le fil du cordon d'alimentation de

l'adaptateur secteur risque de casser.

● N'utilisez pas d'adaptateur secteur autre

que celui fourni avec la PT-9500PC.

Sinon, l'imprimante risque de ne pas

fonctionner correctement.

un Macintosh après son installation. Ne

raccordez pas la PT-9500PC à un PC

avant d'y avoir été invité.

Insérez la fiche de l'extrémité du câble

d'interface USB dans le port USB du PC.

Remarque

● Lors de l'établissement d'une connexion

USB via un concentrateur, il se peut qu'il

soit impossible d'effectuer une connexion

correcte en raison du type de

concentrateur utilisé. Si c'est le cas,

raccordez directement la PT-9500PC à

un PC avec le câble d'interface USB.

● La PT-9500PC ne peut pas être raccordée

au port USB d'un PC fonctionnant sous

Windows 95/NT 4.0. Dans ce cas, elle

doit être raccordée au port série.

Pour permettre au PC d'utiliser la PT-9500PC,

installez le logiciel P-touch Editor 4.0 pour la

conception d'étiquettes et le logiciel du pilote

d'imprimante.

Installez le logiciel P-touch Editor, puis le pilote

d'imprimante.

Lors de l'installation du logiciel sur un PC,

respectez les précautions suivantes en fonction

de l'environnement d'exploitation utilisé.

■ Raccordement à un port USB

Ne raccordez pas le câble d'interface USB au

PC tant que le logiciel n'a pas été installé.

Si le câble d'interface USB est raccordé à un

PC avant l'installation du logiciel, la boîte de

dialogue suivante s'affiche. Cliquez sur

[Annuler], puis débranchez le câble

d'interface USB.

Remarque

● En fonction du système d'exploitation

installé sur le PC, il peut s'avérer

nécessaire de redémarrer le PC pendant

l'installation. Une fois le PC redémarré,

connectez-vous en utilisant le même nom

d'utilisateur et poursuivez l'installation.

● Si vous devez installer une imprimante

réseau, veuillez utiliser la fonction

d'installation avancée.

● Si vous ne souhaitez installer que le

pilote d'imprimante, reportez-vous à la

En cas d'utilisation du serveur d'impression

PS-9000, la PT-9500PC peut être utilisée en

tant qu'imprimante réseau.

Cette fonction n'est possible que dans un

environnement Windows.

Remarque

● Si le câble d'interface USB est raccordé à
