Two keys to outstanding photos and movies
You won’t see them but they are there: Sony’s 20.1 megapixel* Exmor™
APS HD CMOS sensor and blazing-fast BIONZ™ image processing engine.
Every scene is captured beautifully, from corner to corner, with fine details
and rich tonal gradations. The sensor’s large size delivers high sensitivity,
attractive defocusing effects, and low noise in wide-ranging shooting
situations including dimly lit environments. Impressive 20.1-effective-
megapixel resolution and advanced BIONZ image processing also bring
every detail to life.
* Effective pixels (approx.)
Large image sensor
Sony is the world’s No. 1 manufac-
turer of image sensors for digital
cameras and video recorders (based
on Sony research from April 2012 to
March 2013 that shows Sony has a
50% market share)
The APS-C size sensor on the 3000 is more than
13x larger than the 1/2.3-size sensors commonly
found on compact digital cameras.

Area-specific noise reduction
This intelligent technology — initially introduced on Sony
with 99 — adjusts the level of noise reduction for different areas of the image.
Series cameras starting
Even in dim lighting, you can shoot beautiful photos with natural
tonal gradations and low noise — without using a flash. Auto ISO
provides outstanding results in most lighting situations and you can
select settings manually to suit particular occasions. Excellent low-
light performance is made possible by cutting-edge features like the
same area-specific noise reduction as found on the 99.

Easy-to-view Tru-Finder
electronic viewfinder
View every scene clearly with the built-in viewfinder, which even
shows the effects of exposure and white balance settings so
you can accurately check how the final photo will look. Features
include 100% frame coverage and various shooting information
displays.
Multi Interface Shoe
expands your shooting options
Tap into a wide variety of optional accessories with the Multi
Interface Shoe. The 3000 system includes external flash units,
video lights, adaptors and more — everything you need when it’s
time to expand.
Convenient mode dial
The mode dial lets you quickly change shooting modes and always
be confident about which shooting mode is currently in use. By
providing intuitive access to P/A/S/M modes, Superior Auto mode
and more, it simplifies operation so you can concentrate on the
action.
Secure, dependable grip
The grip is designed so you can hold the camera securely, shoot
with confidence and enjoy worry-free shooting. Sony even
conducted market research to determine the optimal grip size and
shape. The result is a comfortable grip that fits snugly in the palm
of your hand and is long enough to grab ahold of securely with all
your fingers.
Built-in flash* for a splash of light
Brighten the scene with this convenient addition. Combined with
the high sensitivity of ISO 16000, you’ll never miss a shot even
when the lights go down. It also produces alluring catch lights for
daylight portraits.

Precious moments you’ll cherish forever.
Produce stunning photos and movies that always impress.
Beautifully composed photos with Auto Object Framing
Give your photos a professional look with Auto Object Framing. This
savvy function analyzes portraits, close-ups or images of moving
subjects then crops them after you take the shot to produce photos
with maximum appeal. Featuring advancements like exceptional
two-person portrait capabilities along with Face Detection and
Tracking Focus, Auto Object Framing not only turns ordinary photos
into stunning compositions but does so effortlessly, automatically
recognizing the scene then cropping accordingly. And thanks to
Sony’s By Pixel Super Resolution Technology and high-resolution
Exmor sensor, images can be radically cropped without marked loss
of image quality.
Notes:
Cropping results vary depending on shooting situations.

Clear Image Zoom
Clear Image Zoom
Conventional digital zoom
50 mm
100 mm equivalent
If you can’t seem to get close enough to the subject, activate Clear
Image Zoom. This extends the reach of your lens up to 2x without
markedly degrading image quality. Clear Image Zoom employs
Sony’s By Pixel Super Resolution Technology to achieve amazingly
sharp zoom shots without a telephoto lens. And by combining it
with 3000’s Digital Zoom and Smart Zoom*, you can increase
magnification up to 8x over the lens’ maximum focal length. What’s
more, Clear Image Zoom supports both photos and movies so you’ll
always have plenty of reach for distant subjects.
* Smart Zoom does not support movies.
Fabulous Full HD movies at the press of a button
Experience the magnificence of Full HD movies in
AVCHD. Just press the MOVIE button and start shooting.
Support for 60i* gives your movies a lifelike feel with
more natural movement while aspiring moviemakers
can select 24p* to re-create the look of traditional
cinema. 3000’s responsive autofocus keeps subjects
in sharp focus, allowing you to record even moving
subjects and still be assured of excellent results. The
built-in microphone delivers superior audio quality, and
Digital Zoom can be used to extend the lens’ maximum
magnification while recording.

Creative versatility for that ‘Wow’ look.
Take your photography to new heights of artistry.
Picture Effect — Your key to an exciting photographic adventure
Every image is a potential work of art with Picture Effect — in-camera control for turning mundane shots into little
gems. 3000 includes 15 effects that can be applied to photos or movies, giving you the means to vastly expand
your artistic repertoire. The ability to view effects in real-time on the LCD screen or viewfinder* before taking the
shot lets you experiment with different looks until you are satisfied with the result.
* The following modes are not displayed in real-time and cannot be applied to movies: HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Soft Focus and Miniature.

Superior Auto mode — Serious point-and-shoot simplicity
Use Superior Auto mode to shoot photos and movies with the ease
of a compact digital camera. In this mode, the camera recognizes
the current shooting environment then adjusts settings for
optimal results. Superior Auto also includes Auto HDR and Hand-
held Twilight modes, both of which employ image compositing
technology to handle difficult lighting by recording multiple images
at high speed then compositing them to produce the final photo.

the bundled micro USB cable to charge
the battery without
removing it from the
camera.
Set 3000 to recognize faces and smiles.
Face Detection locates up to eight faces in
a composition then adjusts exposure, white
balance and other settings based on these
faces. Smile Shutter — adjustable in three
levels — automatically takes a shot when
smiles in the scene are at their brightest.

Anti Motion Blur / Hand-held Twilight modes (Scene Selection)
Creative Style
Employing Sony image compositing technology, these two modes deliver superb photos
with reduced noise and blur when shooting handheld in low-light environments. Anti Motion
Blur mode is especially useful for decreasing blur caused by camera shake and subject
movement, while Hand-held Twilight mode balances exposure between the main subject
and background for pleasing nighttime photos.
Tailor the look of photos and movies before
shooting. Choose from one of six settings —
Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset
or Black & White — depending on the scene
or your creative intent.
Auto HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode / D-range Optimizer (DRO)
Speed Priority Continuous mode
Decrease contrast in scenes with extremely dark and light areas. Well suited for stationary
subjects, Auto HDR mode combines three images — one each for highlights, mid-tones and
shadows — to produce one photo that closely resembles the scene as you saw it. DRO takes
only one shot, but can be used for lowering contrast in photos with moving subjects and
when using continuous shooting.
Freeze fast-moving subjects by shooting at
up to 3.5 fps*. This is the ideal solution for
photographing sports, children at play or
other action.
* In Speed Priority Continuous mode. Continuous speed varies
depending on shooting conditions and memory cards. Focus and
exposure are locked at the first shot.
