1 . In t rodu ct ion  
Th is RAID Native SATA-150 4Ports PCI Hos t Ada pter is a PCI to 4Ports Seria l  
ATA h os t con troller boa rd. It provides a 32bit, 33/ 66 MHz PCI in terface on th e  
h ost side an d du al, fu lly com plian t Serial ATA ports on th e device side to access  
SATA Hard disk drive.  
Th e b oa rd ca n b e u s ed to u p gra d e you r d es k top com p u ter to h a ve 4 Ports  
Seria l ATA Ch a n n els a n d s u pport RAID 0, RAID 1 a n d RAID 0+1 fea tu res . It  
a ccepts h os t com m a n ds th rou gh th e PCI bu s , proces s es th em a n d tra n s fers  
da ta between th e h ost an d Serial ATA devices. Th e board sh ou ld be con n ected  
to S ATA t a r get d evice a n d will t a k e t h e d a t a , s er ia lize it a n d ou t p u t it for  
tran sm ission over th e SATA in terface. Th e board can con trol fou r in depen den t  
Seria l ATA ch a n n els . Ea ch ch a n n el h a s its own Seria l ATA b u s a n d will  
su pport on e Serial ATA device.  
Th e boa rd s u pports Seria l ATA Gen era tion 1 tra n s fer ra te of 1.5 Gb/ s (150  
MB/ s). It comes completely with drivers for Windows 98, Windows Millen n iu m ,  
Win dows NT 4.0, Win dows 2000 an d XP.

kn own a s Stripin g, perform a n ce of s u s ta in ed da ta tra n s fer ra tes is grea tly

ben efit of RAID is data redu n dan cy. RAID 1, Mirrorin g, writes iden tical data on

RAID - Redu n dan t Array of In depen den t Disk s  
RAID tech n ology m an ages m u ltiple disk drives to en h an ce I/ O perform an ce a n d  
provide redu n da n cy in order to with s ta n d th e fa ilu re of a n y in dividu a l m em ber,  
with ou t loss of data. Th is card provides two RAID Set types, Striped (RAID 0) an d  
Mirrored (RAID 1).  
Disk St ripin g (RAID 0 )  
Stripin g is a perform an ce-orien ted, n on -redu n dan t data m appin g tech n iqu e.  
Wh ile Stripin g is discu ssed as a RAID Set type, it is actu ally does n ot provide  
fa u lt tolera n ce. With m odern SATA bu s m a s terin g tech n ology, m u ltiple I/ O  
opera tion s ca n be don e in pa ra llel, en h a n cin g perform a n ce. Stripin g a rra ys u se  
m u ltiple disks to form a larger virtu al disk.  
Disk Mirrorin g (RAID 1 )  
Disk m irrorin g creates an iden tical twin for a selected disk by h avin g th e data  
simu ltaneou sly written to two disks. This redu ndancy provides in stan tan eou s  
protection from a sin gle disk failu re. If a read failu re occu rs on on e drive, th e  
system reads th e data from th e oth er drive.  
Mirrored-St ripin g (RAID 0 +1 also k n own as RAID 1 0 )  
A Mirrored-Stripin g Set does ju st wh at it says, com bin in g both Stripin g an d  
Mirrorin g tech n ologies to provide both th e perform an ce en h an cem en ts th at  
com e from Stripin g a n d th e da ta a va ila bility a n d in tegrity th a t com es from  
Mirrorin g. Wh en data is written to a Mirrored-Striped Set, in stead of creatin g ju st

on e virtu al disk as Stripin g wou ld do, a secon d, Mirrored virtu al disk is created  
as well.  
3 . BIOS In st allat ion ( RAID Set t in g )  
Creatin g an d deletin g RAID sets is a fu n ction fou n d in th e BIOS. Du rin g boot u p,  
the RAID setting message will appear and pau se for a few moments to allow th e  
u ser to ch oose wh at to do. Th is board will act as n orm al NON-RAID card wh en  
BIOS n ot con figu red for RAID. J u s t proceed to Softwa re In s ta lla tion section  
directly. If you u se tradition al parallel ATA HDD, m ake su re you r h ard drives be  
set u p as m aster m ode before th e RAID settin g.  
3 .1 . Creat in g St riped Set s (RAID 0 )  
1. As th e BIOS boots, Press CTRL+S or F4 to en ter th e raid bios u tility.  
2. Select Creat e RAID set . Press En t er.  
3. Select St rip e th en press En t er.  
4. Select Au t o con figu rat ion . Press En t er.  
5. Press Y to save you r settin gs.  
6. Press CTRL+E an d th en press Y to exit th e setu p.  
7. Continu e with conventional Fdisk and Format steps as if you are in stallin g a  
con ven tion al h ard drive.  
8. You r RAID configu ration is complete. Please proceed to software in stallation  
section .  
3 .2 . Creat in g Mirrored Set s (RAID 1 )  
1. As th e BIOS boots, Press CTRL+S or F4 to en ter th e raid bios u tility.  
2. Select Creat e RAID set . Press En t er.  
3. Select Mirrored th en press En t er.  
4. Select Au t o con figu rat ion . Press En t er.  
5. Press Y to save you r settin gs.  
6. Press CTRL+E an d th en press Y to exit th e setu p.  
7. Continu e with conventional Fdisk and Format steps as if you are in stallin g a  
con ven tion al h ard drive.  
8.Your RAID configuration is complete. Please proceed to software installation section.  
3 .3 . Creat in g a Mirrored-St riped Set

1. As th e BIOS boots, press CTRL+S or F4 to en ter th e raid bios u tility.  
2. Select Creat e RAID set . Press F2 .  
3. Select Mirrored-St rip ed set th en press F3 .  
4. Select Au t o con fig. Press A.  
5. Press Y an d th en press ESC to exit th e setu p.  
6. Con tin u e with con ven tion al Fdisk an d Form at steps as if you are in stallin g a  
con ven tion al h ard drive.  
7.You r RAID con figu ration is com plete. Please proceed to software in stallation  
section .  
3 .4 . Delet in g RAID Set s  
1. As th e BIOS boots, Press CTRL+S or F4 to en ter th e raid bios u tility.  
2. Select Delet e RAID set . Press En t er.  
3. Answer Y to remove the RAID set. If the RAID set being deleted is a Striped set,  
then all of the data will be lost. If the set being deleted is a Mirrored set, th en th e  
data will rem ain in tact an d accessible on both drives.  
3 .5 . Rebu ildin g Mirrored Set s  
1. After replacin g th e failed h ard drives boot th e BIOS, Press CTRL+S or F4 to  
en ter th e raid bios u tility.  
2. Select rebu ildin g Mirrored set . Press En t er.  
3. Select On lin e rebu ild or Offlin e rebu ild.  
4. An swer Y to rebu ild th e Mirrored set of h ard drive.  
3 .5 . Resolvin g Con flict  
Wh en a RAID set is created, th e m etadata written to th e disk in clu des drive  
con n ection in form ation (Prim ary an d Secon dary). If, after a disk failu re, th e  
replacement disk was previou sly part of a RAID set (or u sed in another system ), it  
m a y h a ve con flict in g m et a d a t a , s p ecifica lly in r efer en ce t o t h e d r ive  
con n ection in form a tion . If s o, th is will p roh ib it th e RAID s et from b ein g  
eith er created or rebu ilt, In order for th e RAID set to fu n ction properly, th is old  
m eta da ta m u s t be firs t overwritten with th e n ew m eta da ta . To res olve this,  
select Resolve Con flict s, and the correct metadata, inclu ding the correct drive  
con n ection in form ation , will be written to th e replacem en t disk.

2. On ce Win dows h a s been in s ta lled, dou ble click My Com p u t e r/ Con t rol  
Pan el/ Syst em , th en click Device Man ager.  
3. Dou ble click Ot h er Devices th en PCI RAID Con t roller.  
4. Click Driver tab, th en Up dat e Driver.  
5. In sert th e Driver CD an d click Next .  
6. Select Search for a bet t er driver t h an t h e on e ...option an d click Next .  
7. Ch eck Sp e c ify a lo c a t io n , u n ch eck th e oth er b oxes , typ e in E:\ (If you r  
CD-ROM/ DVD is E:\ ) a n d click Browse.

2. At th e Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next .

Next .  
4. In s ert th e Driver CD, ch eck Sp e c ify a loc a t ion , u n ch eck th e oth er boxes,  
an d click Browse.

follow Microsoft procedu res to in stall Win dows accordin gly.  
2. Once Windows has been installed, right click My Com put er, then click Prop ert ies.  
Click Device Man ager tab.  
3. Dou ble click Ot h er Devices th en PCI RAID Con t roller.  
4. Click Driver tab, th en Up dat e Driver.  
5. In s ert th e Driver CD, ch eck Sp e c ify t h e lo c a t io n o f t h e d r ive r  
(Advan ced) an d click Next .  
6. Select Se a r c h fo r t h e be t t e r d r ive r op tion , ch eck Sp e c ify a lo c a t io n ,  
u n ch eck Rem ovable Media, type in E:\ (If you r CD-ROM/ DVD is E:\ ), an d  
click Browse.

3. At th e Win dows Set -u p screen , press F6 to specify an d add th e driver.  
4. Press S, select Ot h er, th en press En t er.  
5. In sert th e Driver diskette an d press En t er.  
6. Select Silic on Im a ge SiI 3 1 1 4 SATARa id Con t rolle r for Win d ows NT 4 .0

3. Insert the Driver CD in you r CD-ROM/ DVD drive and type in E:\ (If you r  
CD-ROM/ DVD is E:\ ), then click Browse.

5.When a warning message pops up, click Continue Anyway, then click Fin ish .
